This week the level 2 and 3 learners have been looking at types of play and how children develop in the different areas of learning.
We explored playdough to understand the term child initiated and adult led play. The learners had 5 minutes to play with the playdough and make whatever they wanted, including a pea pod of smiley faces.
This was an example of child initiated play, then the learners went on to take part in an adult led task and were shown a daffodil and using the playdough they were asked to make a model daffodil including the correct number of petals, the trumpet centre and the stem.
We also looked at the play possibilities of a cardboard tube and how children are usually experts at heuristic play. The learners shared ideas of how their tube became a microphone, boat, telescope and mobile phone to talk to their friends.
